Lifestyles of the Rich and Weird

What is the broad way with money, and what is the narrow?  How do we get “weird” with it?

Normal people can’t get enough money.  ”Rich” is a moving target:

Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income (Ecclesiastes 5:10).

Weird people realize they’re rich!  Go to http://www.globalrichlist.com to see how much you have compared to the rest of the world.  In the US, we’ve been handed a winning lottery ticket called a birth certificate.  See the opportunities you have because of what God has given you:

When God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work – this is a gift of God (Ecclesiastes 5:19).

Normal people keep up with the Joneses.  Why let our neighbors control us?  Most people are heading in the wrong direction.

There are six health problems associated with money: stress, addiction, depression, obesity, exhaustion, and shorter lifespan.  In addition, financial issues are one of the primary causes of divorce.

Weird people don’t try to keep up with the Joneses and compare with their neighbors.

Normal people don’t follow God’s guidelines.

Weird people read and obey God’s Word:

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.  Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.  In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life (1 Timothy 6:17-19).

There are three ways to be rich and weird.  Stay humble.  Don’t rely on stuff for your happiness.  And be generous:

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked (Luke 12:48).

You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God (2 Corinthians 9:11).

Make a strategic plan to be generous.  You’ve been favored by God so you can share with others.  Give spontaneously.  Give strategically.  Give sacrificially.  What would happen if all of the Body of Christ gave like this?  The Great Commission could be fulfilled soon.

Ridgeview Easter Eggstravaganza CANCELLED

Like most of you, we have been closely monitoring weather reports for most of the afternoon.  The forecast calls for rain overnight and predicts an 80% chance of rain during the AM hours tomorrow.  Therefore, due to the large amount of volunteers needed to coordinate an event of this magnitude, we feel it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel tomorrow morning’s event at Ridgeview Manor and look at another date that will be more suitable.

At this time we are considering a post-Easter Event on April 14th, 2012 in conjunction with Second Saturday.  This will allow us time to prepare and not compete with other upcoming events related to spring break, The Masters and Easter.

Thank you for your understanding. We appreciate your dedication to TrueNorth Church and our community.

Note: Sunday’s Easter Eggstravaganza at Gentry’s Mobile Home Park is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm as planned.

COUNTDOWN TO EASTER BEGINS!

TNC has started its’ “COUNTDOWN TO EASTER.”  You can countdown with us by checking out our BILLBOARD on Martintown Road in North Augusta.  I’m HOPING that it will cause each of us to get excited about the most SIGNIFICANT EVENT in the history of the world, the DEATH & RESURRECTION of our SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST!   EASTER is the SUPER BOWL of our faith!!!  Followers of Jesus around the world will gather to CELEBRATE & HONOR the KING OF KINGS & LORD OF LORDS for HIS SALVATION!

At TNC we are planning a SPECIAL EASTER CELEBRATION on Sunday, APRIL 8, to HONOR THE NAME OF JESUS!!!  Once again, we will HAVE TWO SERVICES @ 9:15 & 11:15 in the NAHS gymnasium to accommodate the MANY GUESTS that YOU WILL BE INIVITING to attend with you!

DON’T FORGET, MORE UNCHURCHED PEOPLE ARE OPEN TO ATTENDING CHURCH at EASTER than at any OTHER TIME OF THE YEAR!!! They just need SOMEONE to INVITE THEM to come. INVITE CARDS are available NOW at Guest Services.

We will begin a new series on EASTER entitled, WALKING DEAD. Without the death of Jesus, there is no resurrection. When we place our faith in Jesus, we unite with Him in death and in new life. This transaction offers us a fresh place of hope, and unleashes a new power in our lives. We will be talking about how it enables us to overcome sin, break free from religion, and get past the pain of our past.

This is an exciting time of the year for every follower of Jesus! I’m looking forward to a great day this Sunday as we continue our WEIЯD series.  You don’t want to miss it!! I look forward to seeing you SUNDAY at TNC!!! Be sure to grab some INVITE CARDS for EASTER SUNDAY as we COUNTDOWN TO EASTER!

I Love You,

Steve

Weird in Relationships

If you want to ruin every relationship in your entire life, play fair.  Don’t play fair.  Be the friend you wish others were to you instead of being a victim:

In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law of the Prophets (Matthew 7:12 NASB.)

In order to have a friend, you have to be a friend.  Keep love and truth in your relationships, but drop your sword.

Love your enemies:

If you love only someone who loves you, will God praise you for that? Even sinners love people who love them. If you are kind only to someone who is kind to you, will God be pleased with you for that? Even sinners are kind to people who are kind to them. If you lend money only to someone you think will pay you back, will God be pleased with you for that? Even sinners lend to sinners because they think they will get it all back. But love your enemies and be good to them. Lend without expecting to be paid back. Then you will get a great reward, and will be the true children of God in heaven. He is good even to people who are unthankful and cruel (Luke 6:32-35 CEV.)

Stop keeping score, but rather run up the score:

Don’t let evil conquer you, but rather conquer evil by doing good (Romans 12:21 NLT.)

Act like a 5 yr. old.  Live for I’m okay, you’re okay. You were created to reflect God’s image, not some fantasy of your own imagination. It is essential to being used by God:

How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You pretenders! You clean the outside of the cup and dish. But on the inside you are full of greed. You only want to satisfy yourselves. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish. Then the outside will also be clean (Matthew 23:25, 26 NIRV.)

Be messy.  Move from survival to surrender:

If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it (Matthew 10:39 NLT.)

Become a powerful tool for God with an available, accessible, and responsible heart:

If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work (2 Timothy 2:21 NLT.)

The City Info and Q&A This Saturday

It’s been in the e-NEWS, in your program, and on truenorthchurch.com.  The City is coming soon to TrueNorth Church.  But what is it?  Although we are still a little while off from revealing The City to everyone, we are giving you the opportunity to get an early unveiling this Saturday morning at The Blok, 1297 W. Martintown Rd. in North Augusta, starting at 10 am.

From 10 am to 11 am, you will be guided through The City, get to ask questions, and be among the firsts at TrueNorth to have the opportunity to be invited!

From 11 am to 12 pm, this session will shift gears toward all our Journey Land and KidzStuff volunteer staff, who will learn more about how The City will become a pivotal part of their Sunday morning activities.

See you Saturday, and see you on The City!

Weird in a “God Way”

When we were young, we wanted to be like the crowd.

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it (Matthew 7:13, 14 NIV.)

The broad road, living like everyone else, will lead to destruction.  To be weird in a “God way,” we are on a narrow road.

Normal is not working.  It’s normal to be overworked, in debt, living week-to-week, and promiscuous.  If you want what normal people have, do what notmal people do.  If you want what few people have, do what few people do.  What might it look like to be weird in a “God way”?

Weird people don’t think like normal people think:

There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death (Proverbs 14:12 TNIV.)

Don’t live any longer the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2 NIRV.)

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you (Romans 12:2 MSG.)

Weird people understand that the way they think determines the way they will behave.  What they think determines what they become.  What we think about, we will ultimately do.  Change what you put into your mind.

Don’t live like normal people live:

Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us (1 Peter 2:11, 12 NIV.)

If we’re not careful, even as followers of Christ, we can live in a way that’s like everybody else.  We can also pull others down to the same level we’re living at. The Church too often looks like the rest of the world.  There is no power in normal.  Be weird for the way God wants you to be.

Daily Devotions

Throughout the Weird series, you can stay in God’s Word with us by receiving daily devotions, either by text or by email.  For more information and to sign up, click here.

Blood Donations Needed

There are many patients in our local hospitals right now who are in need of your blood donations.  Supplies are currently low and the need is great.  If you are interested in donating blood, the Shepeard Community bloodmobile will be on hand this Sunday, March 11, on the TNC campus. Your one donation will help save three local lives.  We are grateful for your ongoing support, and we need your presence this week.

‘Weird,’ Daylight Saving Time This Sunday

We are free to live different, and doing so makes us “weird.” Get ready for an eye-opening series that begins this Sunday which will encourage you to carry out your faith even when it means marching to a different drum than everyone else. Who ever said we were the same?

Also, set your clocks one hour ahead this Saturday night, as Sunday begins Daylight Saving Time. (The 8:30 service crowd is encouraged to take a nice nap and enjoy the extra hour of sun later in the day!)

See you Sunday, and consider it an honor if we call you “weird”!
